Abstract. The audacity and decency to abandon them. The retirement in the practice of the French Republic. What motivates a politician to forego retirement? What factors influence the decision to resign from a high-ranking position? Are there political situations, health issues, or scandals that make it impossible for a politician to stay in power? Is there ever an instance in politics where a key player leaves on his own rather than because of the circumstances? The goal of this research is to look into the habit of presidents retiring during the French Republic's history.
